KUWAIT CITY, Nov 25: The Court of Appeals upheld the verdict issued by the Court of First Instance, which acquitted a fisherman of using an illegal net for fishing at Kuwait Bay, says Al-Seyassah. The Public Prosecution had accused the suspect and two unknown individuals of fishing at a restricted area because it is regarded as being of special nature.

The suspect allegedly took his boat to the location without securing administrative authorization and used an illegal net for fishing. The concerned officials from the Public Authority for Agricultural Affairs and Fish Resources (PAAAFR) were on a routine patrol of the area when they sighted the defendant and two unknown individuals carrying out the illegal fishing.

The officials approached them and demanded for their identification, which two of the suspects could not provide but they promised to submit themselves at the center. When the defendant presented his civil ID, the officials issued citations for the violations perpetrated.

However, the suspect refused to hand over the fishing materials, and he later did not go to the center with the other two individuals. During the court session, the defense counsel Lawyer Nasser Al-Bashir insisted that the investigations conducted by the detectives cannot serve as an evidence to prove a case, because it is a mere opinion that may or may not be right, adding that the testimonies of the witnesses lacked credibility.
