Newly formed Goan Football Association, Kuwait (GFAK) is set to launch the first ever 7-a-side ‘Goan Football League’ (GFL) in Kuwait starting Aug 2, 2019.

Matches will be played Friday mornings at Daiya Turf Grounds starting 6:30 am.

In a draw conducted at Daiya, it was stated that the league will consist of 12 teams divided into 2 groups for a double league.

The innovative idea of the league has been masterminded by Manuel D’Costa and Austine Abreo.

Indian Football has been prevalent in Kuwait for nearly half a century now, but this is probably the first time in history that an association has come forward to organize a league for Goans.

Core Committee of GFAK consists of Manuel D’Costa, Austine Abreo, Melvin Fernandes, Agricio D’Mello, Salvador Dias, Cajetan Fernandes, Marshall Fernandes, etc.

The organizers have ensured all teams are on the field to play every Friday.

The league promises to bring Goans together in Kuwait although the weather may not be too promising for competitive football or attract spectators with summer temperatures here touching the 60°C mark with Kuwait being the hottest in the world.

Although most Goan players are already involved in playing under Kuwait Indian Football Federation (KIFF) which has been pioneering Indian football over the years, the GFAK will provide added opportunities for more Goans to play within the arena.

The participating teams in the new league are as follows:

Group A

St. Rita’s - Maina

Holy Spirit – Margao

Miracles SC

Pasha Boys, Bardez

Navelim Stars

Capxem Boys

Group B

CRC Chinchinim

Goa Strikers

St Christopher FC

Dynamos FC

Le Blues

Amingos de Jardine

Each team is allowed to register a maximum 12 players. Matches will be officiated by GFAK appointed referees.
