KUWAIT CITY, Nov 22: The Ministry of Education will implement the fingerprint attendance system in schools on experimental basis at the beginning of the second semester; while it intends to take the same step in all schools at the beginning of the next academic year, reports Al-Seyassah daily quoting sources.
Sources affirmed the ministry has completed procedures to award the tender for the supply, installation, operation and maintenance of fingerprint devices at a value of KD350,000 – about 3,000 devices for 1,000 schools. Sources said the ministry previously floated the same tender at a value of KD1 million, but the Central Agency for Public Tenders canceled it.

Sources pointed out it is surprising that the value of the tender went down from KD1 million to KD350,000. Sources added the ministry will install three devices in each school (public and private) after signing the tender contract, clarifying that all employees in private schools registered in the integrated system and receive salaries from the ministry will be required to use the fingerprint devices for recording their attendance.
