‘Finance, SAB expected to okay KD 1.2b dev projects’ – MPW starts construction, maintenance of roads, bridges

KUWAIT CITY, March 6: The Secretariat General of the Cabinet has affirmed that the Ministry of Finance and State Audit Bureau are expected to approve several development projects with an estimated total cost of KD 1.2 billion, reports Al-Qabas daily quoting sources.

Sources revealed these projects include the improvement of roads and infrastructure by the Public Authority for Housing Welfare (PAHW), in addition to Metla’a Housing City and Al-Ghos Team. Meanwhile, Ministry of Public Works has started work on the construction, completion and maintenance of roads and bridges along the road linking Sabah Al-Ahmad City to Khairan Residential City, as part of the major projects estimated at KD 45.750 million. Assistant Undersecretary for Road Engineering at the Ministry of Public Works Engineer Ahmad Al-Hessan revealed that the sector is ready to start execution of the project.

He also said other relevant service authorities are being carried along to ensure smooth take off and quick execution of the project. He disclosed that the project was designed to match international standards, indicating it is of six phases that include three ongoing phases and three other new phases, which are all 130 kilometers long.

In another development, Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) signed an agreement with Total Company to provide technical services required by Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) and employees with vast experience, reports Al-Shahid daily quoting sources. Sources disclosed the contract includes the appointment of 15 experts for developing the strategy of KOC — four for the northern oilfields, three for providing assistance in the implementation of the first phase of the oilfields development project which aims to produce 60,000 barrels daily, three for fencing, one for planning, three for digging and one for exploration.

The Environment Public Authority (EPA) continues its national campaign, “Tiswa Nahmiha” (It is Worth Protecting), to raise public awareness on new environment protection law number 42/2014, amended with law number 99/2015, reports Al-Seyassah daily. In the past two months, the campaign took place in the Avenues Mall and it is currently being held at the 360 Mall ending in May, in addition to American University in Kuwait from March 6-8, 2016. Head of Media Committee for the campaign Abdallah Al-Shabeeb announced organization of several awareness campaigns to inform citizens and expatriates about the articles of the law, including penalties. He said the campaign’s objective is to be present in malls, complexes, universities, schools, authorities and government bodies to guarantee that it reaches a large number of people. Currently, the committee is hosting a pavilion at the EPA building and this pavilion is made of recycled material, thereby, encouraging the public to adopt the idea of recycling and other environment- friendly projects, in addition to holding various competitions for the public to raise their awareness in this regard.
