KUWAIT CITY, April 20: The Ministry of Electricity and Water usually ends the periodic maintenance work at the end of May of each year, to be ready for the summer season when the heat is at its height and the power consumption rates shoot high, reports Al-Anba daily.

The start of the season (high power consumption) this year coincides with the holy month of Ramadan, which puts the ministry on alert, especially that the holy month will kick off at the beginning of May in light of the maintenance operations and putting units out of service due to maintenance so these units must be serviced taking into account all the need for them at the most crucial period.

Informed sources told the daily there is a fright that the maintenance of these units will clash with the holy month of Ramadan, pointing out that the high consumption witnessed during the holy month due to the doubling of consumption rates over the day and night will raise the consumer index to the restricted point due to maintenance work.

The sources pointed out that the ministry is preparing intensively to avoid any conflict between production and consumption, pointing out that the electricity production in the country covers the consumption and usually has a good reserve, but the coincidence of high consumption expected with the onset of month of Ramadan with the completion of maintenance give rise to many questions.

On the water situation, sources said that it is no different from power consumption, noting that the ministry can use strategic stocks in the event of any discrepancy between production and consumption
