Facebook love story leaves Egyptian woman with baby, clueless

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 5: A 23-yearold Egyptian woman through the Al-Rai has appealed to the Egyptian Ambassador to Kuwait to find a solution to her tragedy, reports Al-Rai daily.

The Egyptian said she befriended a young compatriot via Facebook when she was only 17 and he promised to marry her. She said the boyfriend visited her in her home in Kuwait when her mother was in Egypt and her younger sister in school. He then forced her to have sex with him. She added it happened in 2013.

She added, as a result she became pregnant and gave birth to a baby girl. She begged the boyfriend to marry her and sought the help of his family but the ‘man’ escaped to Egypt leaving the baby girl behind.

She said she gave birth to the baby girl in a hospital and a case of rape was filed against the compatriot because she failed to submit a marriage contract.

The court has sentenced the father of the baby to 10 years in prison in absentia. Now she is facing the dilemma because she cannot legalize her situation since the Kuwait government refuses to grant the baby residence permit and the Egyptian embassy refuses to give citizenship.
