Eye on frequent money-senders – Money-laundering suspected

KUWAIT CITY, June 2: Central Bank of Kuwait (CBK) is considering the possibility of blacklisting some customers of certain money exchange companies for carrying out several large and small money transfers, in consideration of the frequency and proximity of the time between the transfers, reports Al-Shahed daily quoting informed sources.

They explained that the blacklisted customers will not be allowed to transfer money until the ban on them is lifted. CBK has started monitoring those who have been frequently carrying out money transfers, as a preliminary step to imposing the ban on them.

The sources indicated that the ban is currently being applied gradually based on the law and the instructions of CBK on those suspected of money laundering, adding that the information of the customers are being collected to determine the objective behind the transfers, the salary they draw on a monthly basis and their job designation on their work permit.

Meanwhile, the General Department for Nationality Affairs and Travel Documents has announced that the citizens will be issued e-passports after the summer holidays, reports Al-Anba daily quoting high-level sources.

The sources pointed out preparations are underway to provide the department material in big quantities needed for producing these passports. A statement issued by the department says advanced technology has been used in producing the electronic passports which makes them forgery proof.

The statement also said all documents and information obtained in this regard will remain unchanged. With regard to the application of the DNA code, the source explained that this application is subject to the issue e-Passport adding the DNA will include the eye and fingerprint.

The sources confirmed the passports can be used until their expiry, indicating that issuing of new passports to those who have valid passports for a long time depends on the demand for new passports.
