Bid to store millions of gallons of extra treated water

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 8: Head of Water Resources Center Eng Mesha’al Al-Saheed disclosed that the Ministry of Electricity and Water, in cooperation with the Research Institute, will conduct experiments in a number of underground water reserves in a bid to store millions of gallons of extra treated water, reports Al-Jarida daily.

Al-Saheed explained the underground water reserves are being examined to ensure they are safe and make no harmful changes to the water. He said these water reserves are natural-made; adding that after guaranteeing their safety, drinking water will be stored there for future use through pipelines and pumps.

He revealed the ministry previously purified sea water through distillation but the current process is reverse osmosis (RO), which is cheaper compared than the old system. He said the RO water purification system specifies the quantity of different types of sulfur in the produced water, affirming the water in Kuwait is among the best in the world.
