‘Expedition brings to mind sacrifices of ancestors’

30th Pearl Diving Voyage exceeds all national expectations, targets: Maj-Gen Al-Fahad


KUWAIT CITY, July 24: Head of Kuwait Sea Sports Club Major General Fahad Al-Fahad highlighted that the 30th Memorial Pearl Diving Voyage, which is being organized by the Marine Heritage Committee at the Kuwait Sea Sports Club under the auspices of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, has exceeded all national expectations and targets on both local and Gulf levels. He stressed that it refl ects the pride and commitment of Kuwaiti youth for their heritage and culture.

On the sidelines of the exploratory tour, which was organized for a media delegation comprising of journalists and representatives of TV channels, of Bandar Ghaus in Al-Khairan area where all the diving ships involved in the voyage are anchored, Major General Al-Fahad said the pearl diving expedition brought to mind the sacrifices of the ancestors, and it enhanced the spirit of loyalty, patriotism and national unity among the participants. He praised the youth who participated in the pearl diving expedition and their wonderful response to the directives of His Highness the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

Major General Al-Fahad stressed that they left their luxurious lives and stepped out of their comfort zone in order to take part in the national event, bearing the risks and the dangers despite the difficult weather conditions and high temperatures in the country that reached 50 degrees Centigrade. He indicated that the activities of the expedition included training the participating youth to clean the dhows and carry out other tasks.

Major General Al-Fahad said it was an honor for him to convey greetings from His Highness the Amir to the participating youth, highlighting the great honor behind His Highness the Amir’s sponsorship of the activity for reviving the 30th anniversary of the pearl diving expedition. Addressing the youth Major General Al-Fahad said, “God bless you all. No words can depict the extent of efforts you exerted to make this event a success”. He thanked Samir Al-Sayer, who is an expert in Kuwaiti tradition, and the head of the folk bank Bin Hussain Mohammad bin Hussain as well as the Bahraini captain Abdulrahman Al-Mana’e.

Major General Al-Fahad also thanked the Head of Kuwait Heritage Committee Ali Al-Qabandi and the committee supervisor Captain Hamed Al-Sayer as well as the members of the committee. He expressed special gratitude to the sponsors of the pearl diving expedition such as Gulf Bank, Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) and Kuwait Flour Mills & Bakeries Company in addition to the media and other sponsors. Major General Al-Fahad condemned some cases of irresponsible behavior displayed on social media represented by the offensive attitudes targeting the participating youth. He said, “I hope those who make a mockery of the youth will be able to step up and match them in terms of their loyalty, hard work and manliness”. Major General Al-Fahad revealed that captain Khalifa Al-Rashed (Abu Adnan), who is known for his skills and efficiency, was unable to participate in the expedition for the first time since its inception because he was unwell, wishing him speedy recovery and long life.
