Egyptian woman engineer accused of insulting Kuwait referred for deportation

KUWAIT CITY, March 17: An Egyptian woman, who works as an engineer in a leading company, has been referred for deportation based on allegations of insulting Kuwait after she uploaded a video deemed offensive to Kuwait on social media.

According to security sources, Ministry of Interior arrested her after she posted the video in which an Egyptian man can be seen insulting Kuwait and demanding the Egyptian government to treat Kuwait the same way it is treating Egypt.

Meanwhile, securitymen arrested an Egyptian expatriate who posted on social media a video deemed potential to harm the relations between the two countries. Necessary steps are being taken to deport him.

The sources said Cybercrime Unit of Ministry of Interior has been following up posts and statements posed on social media, and will take necessary action against those who spread fake news or attack Kuwait or conduct any other actions that are in violation of the country’s laws.

In this regard, Director General of Ahmadi Trading and Contracting Company Faisal Al-Thuwaini said in press release, “We regret the post uploaded on social media by an engineer who works in our company. We are sorry that she offended the government and people of Kuwait”.

He added, “We in Ahmadi Trading and Contracting Company condemn such behavior. Necessary action has been taken with the cooperation of Ministry of Interior, and we thank the ministry”.

Meanwhile, the Cyber Crime Department has arrested an unidentified Egyptian for criticizing Kuwait for steps taken to prevent the spread of coronavirus, reports Al-Rai daily.

The arrest came after the clip which he posted in the social media spread in the social media. Two days ago, another Egyptian was arrested for mocking in the social media the Ministry of Health safety precautions regarding the coronavirus.
