Educating expat laborers about rights guaranteed by law

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 16: The Kuwait Society for Human Rights is carrying out an activity targeting immigrant workers in Kuwait, or what is locally called “Expatriate Laborers”. This activity is implemented in partnership with the USMiddle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI), as a kind of joint cooperation in raising awareness and educating migrant workers in Kuwait about their rights guaranteed by law. In addition, providing them with legal, psychological and social support.

The project works on providing legal advice and psychological, social and legal support to workers in the private sector who are subject to the Kuwaiti Labor Law No. 6 of 2010, or workers in the domestic sector who are subject to Domestic Labor Law No. 68 of 2015.

Whereas workers in the two sectors can call the Hotline No. 22215150 and obtain the project services in Arabic, English, Filipino, Hindi and Urdu, or access to the electronic platform www.togetherkw.org and benefit from its services through the same languages in addition to Sri Lankan and Ethiopian languages, as well as providing legal consultancy services and responding to the employers’ enquiries; services through which the Society aspires to continue its civil activity in bearing its responsibility in order to create a culture and legal awareness of migrant workers in Kuwait.

During the year 2021, the following was implemented: Legal advice provided to migrant workers: 4,808 Legal advice provided by the association to migrant workers, as follows: 4,417 legal advice provided via the hotline in the following languages 1,301 Hindi, 1,021 Arabic, 930 Filipino, 847 English, 318 Urdu, 391 legal advice was provided via the electronic platform in both Arabic and English Psychosocial and social support provided to migrant workers: 309 cases according to the following gender 228 females, 81males, Dealing with workers’ complaints received by the association: 366 work complaints received by the association according to the following gender 244 males, 142 females, It was handled as follows 282 cases resolved amicably 84 cases referred to court
