Detention ordered of suspect charged with running over & killing policeman

KUWAIT CITY, April 5: The Sentences Renewal Judge has ordered the detention of the suspect who is charged with running over and killing a policeman and running over and injuring six others during the National Day holidays celebrations in front of the Dasman Palace roundabout, reports Al-Qabas daily.

During interrogation the accused has confessed that the plan was to kill all security personnel. A source close to the case said the accused has admitted to embracing the al-Qaeda ideas and does not believe in the democratic system but seeks the establishment of a Caliphate state. When the judge asked the accused if he would repeat the act if he was acquitted, the latter quipped ‘I will think about it’. Meanwhile, the Misdemeanor Court of First Instance acquitted two Kuwaiti citizens who were accused of threatening a compatriot for daring to seek the hand of their sister in marriage.

According to the defense counsel Lawyer Mohammad Al-Qattan from Lawyer Khalil Al-Qattan Legal Consultancy and Law Firm, his clients went to the plaintiff’s residence on March 21, 2015. They called his mobile phone and informed him that they were waiting for him at his house with the intention of killing him for proposing to marry their sister.

Assistant Undersecretary for Citizenship and Passports Affairs at the Ministry of Interior Major-General Mazen Al-Jarrah has issued a decision to transfer six Citizens Service Centers from the General Department of Service Centers to the General Department for Nationality and Travel Documents, reports Al-Rai daily. The six centers affected by the decision are the Al-Shamiya Citizens Service Center, the West Mishref, Ishbiliya, Saad Al-Abdullah (Block 5), Adan (Block 7) and Fahd Al-Ahmad to facilitate the application of e-passport project for citizens.
