‘Hike seen in number of oil sector Kuwaitis working under contract’

KUWAIT CITY, April 8: The number of Kuwaiti employees registered under contracts of contractors working in the oil sector has reached 4,842 in the 2018/2019 fiscal year compared to 3,632 employees in the 2014/2015 fiscal year, reports Al-Rai daily quoting informed sources.

They affirmed that KPC and its subsidiaries have carried out several initiatives to increase opportunities for Kuwaiti employees under the contracts of oil-sector contractors.

They indicated that several meetings have been held between the CEO of KPC Hashim Al-Hashim and officers from the Human Resources departments to find an adequate mechanism for implementing a new system that will meet all the requirements.

Meanwhile, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Planning and Development (SCPD) Dr Khaled Al-Mahdi revealed that there is a national committee that was established since 2017 to coordinate efforts among all the state agencies, the private sector and civil society in addition to the Audit Bureau, the World Bank and the United Nations Development Program, reports Al-Rai daily.

He told Annahar daily the committee primarily has three basic functions, including annual reports on sustainability in the country with which has 17 goals and pointed out that Kuwait will present its report in July at the United Nations. He pointed out that it is wrong to believe that the demographic structure and imbalances in the labor market and the outputs of education will be solved overnight. He also pointed out that the “demographic” structure of the country is defined in the development plan according to which the percentage of Kuwaitis in 2020-2035 will be about 40 percent. He explained all managers of strategic development projects are Kuwaitis and stressed that they are preparing the operating plans themselves.
