KUWAIT CITY, Feb 16: The Criminal Court presided over by Judge Mohammad Jafar heard the case filed against ten individuals who are accused of funding and supporting DAESH terrorist group. The court session was adjourned for preparing the defense.

Six of the suspects, who are being detained at the Central Prison, were present at the court session and pleaded ‘not guilty’ to the offense. The other four suspects were not present in the court because they are still at large and are yet to be arrested.

According to the case file, Ministry of Interior accused the suspects of funding DAESH and supplying it with missiles and weapons. Police officers arrested a 1975- born Lebanese expatriate for acting as a coordinator for DAESH in Kuwait, facilitating the recruitment of new members and providing logistics support to the group.

He allegedly used a website for promoting the group. He confessed to securing several deals for DAESH including the purchase of FH6 Scud Missile and revealed his close contact with the leadership of DAESH in Syria. He also indicated that many personalities inside Kuwait are members of the group.

Activist convicted: The Misdemeanor Court convicted political activist and former head of Kuwait Medical Society Dr Anwar Hayati who was accused of misusing his mobile phone for posting a threat and offensive comments against the chief of doctors Dr Hussain Al-Khabaz on his Twitter account.

The court ordered the confiscation of his mobile phone, referring the petition to the concerned court for ordering payment of compensation worth KD 5,001. During the trial session, Dr Al-Khabaz explained the reasons why the suspect posted offensive remarks against him such as the society exposed the corruption and violations committed by Minister of Health Dr Ali Al-Obeidi and it supported the grilling request submitted against the minister. He went on to explain that the suspect presented himself as the first line of defense for the minister. The suspect then started threatening him to stop disclosing the violations committed by the minister.

Since the minister is being supported by a number of other doctors also, the suspect decided to seek the opinion of some of his colleagues who share his stance such as Head of Kuwait Medical Society Dr Mohammad Al-Mutairi, its Secretary General Dr Mohammad Al-Qenai and a former member Dr Ali Jowhar. Dr Al-Khabaz revealed that he insisted on his stance to punish the suspect for the accusations launched against him.
