KUWAIT CITY, Dec 5: The Court of Appeals overturned the verdict of the First Instance Court which sentenced the manager of a local bank to one month in prison with hard labor, resulting in the acquittal of the accused. Case files indicate the manager was accused by an employee in the same bank of insulting and humiliating the plaintiff in front of other employees in a public place as defined by the law. Defense lawyer, Attorney AbdulMuhsin Al-Qattan, said the defendant and the plaintiff, along with witnesses in favor of the latter work in the same branch. He added defendant is the branch manager and responsible for the employees in the branch. Al-Qattan pointed out the main reason behind the case filed by the plaintiff is that the job performance appraisal reports made by the accused did not meet the satisfaction of the employees.

‘Promote staff’: The Administrative Court has nullified the decision of the Director General of Public Authority for Applied Education and Training (PAAET) who refused to promote an academic staff from Assistant Professor to Associate Professor. The court consequently ordered the promotion of the staff. Plaintiff Attorney Zaid Al- Khabaz said his client was an assistant professor at the College of Basic Studies and satisfied all prerequisites for promotion. He argued that the colleagues of his client have been promoted while he was denied the same privilege. He stressed the Promotions Committee and PAAET Council approved of his application for promotion but the Director General rejected it.
