Court demands detention of fireman found drunk

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 4: The Criminal Court recently demanded the detention of a firefighter for attending a court hearing in a drunken state over a case of alcohol consumption filed against him, reports Al-Rai daily. According to sources, the firefighter had attended a hearing session and was behaving in a disoriented manner. He would frequently interrupt his defense lawyer and request the judge to allow him to read a message on his cell phone. At times, he would talk using strange words. The smell of alcohol was evidently emanating from the firefighter.

Dispute over polls: Administrative Court has fixed the session of February 11 for the urgent hearing of a lawsuit filed by Lawyer Abdulmohsen Al-Qattan on behalf of a candidate of the National Assembly by-election Ammar Asiri over the allegation that his name was removed from the candidacy list of the Third Constituency election. Lawyer Al-Qattan urged the court to fast-track the case by suspending the execution of decision No. 441/2016 issued by Minister of Interior on Jan 28 that disqualified his client from participating in the election which is scheduled to be held on Feb 20. He also requested the court to order the concerned committee to accept his client as a candidate.

Sports row March 22: The Court of First Instance set March 22 for the hearing of a lawsuit filed by the Public Authority for Youth and Sports (PAYS) against Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad, Sheikh Talal Al-Fahad and members of Kuwait Olympic Committee as they were accused of working against the interests of Kuwaiti sports. The lawyers for Sheikh Ahmad, Sheikh Talal and Jassem Al-Huweitan attended the session, while the government counsel was absent. The authority demanded for KD 5,001 temporary compensation, preparatory to request for KD 400 million compensation for causing suspension of Kuwait in international sporting activities. It claimed that Na’eemah Al-Ahmad, Sheikh Ahmad, Sheikh Talal and other members of the Olympic Committee submitted a complaint to the International Olympic Committee regarding the government’s sports law. It alleged that the defendants took this step to destroy Kuwaiti sports by ensuring its suspension
