KUWAIT CITY, Sept 18: The Criminal Section in the First Instance Court acquitted an Asian of smuggling and trading in drugs (three kilograms of hashish). The Public Prosecution had earlier charged the Asian with drugs smuggling and trafficking.
Lawyer for the accused, Attorney Esmat Al-Kharboutli, raised doubts on the arrest and search procedures which she considered illegal as no permission was obtained from the prosecution. She argued the defendant was not arrested red-handed while she questioned the testimonies of the customs inspector and investigation officer, so she demanded for the acquittal of her client citing the absence of incriminating evidence.
