Co-op staff probed in bribe issue

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 16: The Criminal Investigation Department in the Interior Ministry is currently investigating two employees in a cooperative Society in Mubarak Al-Kabeer Governorate as they demanded a bribe of KD1,500 for the renewal of the contract of an investor’s space in the central market of the cooperative, reports Al-Qabas daily quoting a reliable source.

The source disclosed that the employees – Gulf nationals – asked the representative of the investor to pay KD1,500 for the renewal of the contract; prompting the investor to inform the Ministry of Interior about this. Through the coordinated efforts of the concerned authorities, legal measures were taken regarding the audio and video recordings of the negotiation between the representative and the employees. The source added the treasurer and head of the department were arrested after receiving the supposed bribe – marked money – last Thursday. Both suspects were referred to the concerned department for investigation.
