Omar Kamal’s first performance since the pandemic – Dubai Opera 2020

Omar Kamal/Dubai Opera enthusiasts were treated to a mesmerizing and heartwarming performance in a sold-out concert by the Palestinian star, the audience were moved to tears in a stellar performance to finish the torturous year on a beautiful note.

In addition his latest hit, Sar Andi Ayleh (Now I Have a Family), which reached the top of the charts in record time, Kamal performed his own rendition of iconic songs by great artists, such as Ya Rayeh Sawb Bladi. Omar and his band from London also played his hugely popular Christmas medley bringing a positive and festive touch to the repertoire. The crowd favorite of the night was Helwa Ya Baladi which brought the crowd onto their feet, the atmosphere was truly special the evening was brought to a close with an unplanned performance of Le Beruit requested by shouts and screams from the audience.

The concert was Kamal’s first since the outbreak of the global pandemic having been locked down in London, and his second performance in Dubai after last year’s sold-out concert at Dubai Opera as part of his 2019 global tour. Omar also shows his deeply charitable nature in a collaboration with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), he promotes UNRWA’s latest winter campaign. Commenting on the success of the concert, Omar Kamal said: “I am excited to be in the UAE, and in Dubai in particular. My previous successful experience encouraged me to visit again and perform at the Dubai Opera. I would like to extend my gratitude to the audience and to my fans in the region and across the Arab World, who are the reason for my success, and as I strive to exceed their expectations, I always make sure to offer my best performance yet.”

Omar’s fans in the US are looking forward to his performance next year at the globally renowned Jazz at Lincoln Centre, New York, as the opening date for his US tour. About Omar Kamal: Omar Kamal is a singer/composer from Nablus, his multicultural influences have given him a rich taste in music ranging from Swing kings like Frank Sinatra to Pop legends such as Michael Jackson, and returning back to Arabic greats such as Mohammed Abdelwahab and Fayrouz.

Omar performs a variety of genres in a number of languages, plays his own instrument, and composes his own music. All these components make Omar one of the most authentic and open artists to emerge from the region in years. He is always looking to add new sounds and elements to his music and experiment with his sound. Work on Omar’s debut album began in early 2015 with Emmy winning producer Dave Pierce (Michael Buble, The Frank Sinatra Estate) and legendary producer Bob Rock (Metallica, Jon Bon Jovi, Aerosmith) with a number of exciting international collaborations (Pedro Eustache, Human Nature) and some of the greatest session players who have worked with the likes of Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney. Recording of the album took place in London, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Vancouver, but most importantly the prestigious Capitol Studios in Hollywood.

The album was finally comixed by Bob Rock and multi-Grammy winner Al Schmitt (Frank Sinatra, Quincy Jones, Barbra Streisand) with the release of his album Serenade in early 2017. Since the recent launch of his album and career, Omar Kamal has had an incredible run in a short period of time. Dubbed as the Arab Frank Sinatra, a standout vocalist and pianist with a natural gift, Omar Kamal became a household name with viral coverage from esteemed international publications such as Middle East Monitor, France 24, BBC World, NPR, Reuters, CNN, Al Jazeera English and more from the Middle East’s most influential media platforms, MBC, Al Arabiya, and Gulf News, to name but a few.

In recent years Omar has performed to thousands of people in major cities such as London, Dubai, Amman, Manama, Abu Dhabi, Cairo, and opened one of the leading festivals in the Arab world at the Beiteddine Palace in Lebanon. Omar Kamal’s tour continues with support from the Abu Dhabi Festivals, and plans for the Middle East, Europe, and the US, leading his exquisite big band from London. In 2018 Omar began work on his second album, titled ‘Show Me The Light’ inspired by the journey to light through music.

The music on the album combined the best of both worlds in music writing, orchestrations, lyrics, and recording sessions. The album features orchestrators from LA to London, Lyricists from Lebanon to Chile, and session players from London to Istanbul, all pulled together by the vision of Omar Kamal as executive producer.
