China dominate 8th Asian shooting championship opener

Chinese shooters bag four gold, one silver and two bronze medals

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 5: China won majority of the medals on the first day of the 8th Asian Shotgun and 11th Asian Airgun championships, currently being held in Kuwait at the Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Olympic Shooting Complex until November 11.

According to a press release, the Chinese team dominated the air gun competitions. Their shooters bagged four gold, one silver and two bronze medals.

In the men’s individual ten-meter air rifle category, China took the top three positions. The first position was clinched by the current world and Asian champion Yang Haoran, while the silver went to the veteran Yiyfi Tsao, and the bronze to amateur shooter Youkon Liu.

In the men’s mixed-team category, China came first, followed by Kazakhstan in second place and Bahrain in third place. The Bahraini team was comprised of Mahmoud Hajji, Nasser Turki and Hussein Abdul-Jabar. In the same category, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait came in the fourth and fifth places respectively.

In the women’s individual ten-meter air rifle category, the 2018 World Shooting Champion Wu Mingyang took the gold, while the bronze went to her compatriot and Champion of ASIAD Jakarta 2018 Zhao Ruozhu. The silver medal went to Singaporean shooter Tisa Neo.

In the women’s mixed-team category, China bagged the gold while the silver went to Singapore and bronze to Taiwan. In the same category, Bahrain came fourth and Kuwait, represented by Munira Al-Anjeri, Zahra Al-Safar and Fatmah Abdulmalik, came fifth.
