CASE LIKELY AGAINST ALLEGED ABUSER

MANILA, March 11: In what is seen as a new ‘twist’ to the ongoing negotiations, the Philippines Embassy is suing the sponsor of a Filipino maid, who was allegedly systematically abused and tortured over the past three months reports Al Anba daily

The daily added, the victim was in the service of the family for a year. According to a security source the victim’s sponsor is a police officer and he reportedly went to the Philippines Embassy to resolve the issue and lure the victim to drop the charges, but his request has been turned down.

The daily added, the maid was able to escape and resort to her embassy for help when she was camping with the family. The sources said when instructions were given to the domestic help department to investigate the incident it revealed inhuman treatment by the family.

The ministry added it also reviewed a video clip on social media about the attack on the Filipina. The interior ministry is expected to take legal action and refer the person who caused the injuries to court.
