Cabinet ‘assigns’ Ministry of Finance to set budget ceiling

KUWAIT CITY, March 1, (KUNA): The Cabinet on Wednesday assigned the Ministry of Finance to oversee measures taken by its economic committee dealing with setting an expenditure ceiling for the nation’s state budget. In the onset of its routine meeting at Bayan Palace, presided over by His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, the Cabinet thanked Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nations for the outpouring of congratulatory messages to mark Kuwait’s national celebrations.

Moreover, the Cabinet looked over a letter sent to His Highness the Amir by Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sisi, thanking His Highness the Amir for his efforts to align the views of Arab nations, which in turn, would serve the best interests of the Arab world. The Cabinet also reviewed a letter sent to His Highness the Amir by US President Donald Trump, which heaped praise on Kuwait as a valued partner of the US in the fight against terrorism.

In his letter, the US president underscored the need for increased dialogue between both nations to enhance bilateral ties. Similarly, a letter penned by United Nations (UN) Secretary General Antonio Guterres extending an invitation to His Highness the Amir to attend a forthcoming UN Sustainable Development Summit, slated for June 5-9th in New York city.

Meanwhile, His Highness the Prime Minister briefed the Cabinet on Bahraini Crown Prince Sheikh Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalifa’s recent visit to the country, which aimed to ameliorate long-standing ties between the Gulf nations. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Sheikh Mohammad Khaled Al-Sabah apprised the Cabinet of his participation in a meeting of the US-led Coalition against the so-called Islamic State (IS), held in Belgium.

On recent regional and international happenings, the Cabinet deplored a pair of recent bomb blasts in Bahrain and Algeria, where scores of people were wounded, as it renewed its vehement condemnation of all forms of terrorism. Meanwhile, the Cabinet has approved appointing Haya Ahmad Al-Wadani as secretary general of the Central Agency for Public Tenders (CAPT). The ministers on Wednesday approved a draft decree appointing Al-Wadani in the post, said Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs and Acting Minister of Information Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah Al- Mubarak Al-Sabah.
