Cabildo clinches FTBK One-Day Tournament title – Mariano, Fermil grab runner up positions

KUWAIT CITY, April 19: While awaiting the roll-off date of the FTBK Tenpin Bowling Team Tournament Season 11 set on April 28, 2017, the strike and spare hungry pin busters of the Filipino Tenpin Bowlers-Kuwait trooped back to the 16-lane Cozmo Bowling Center in Salmiya to test the new team event oiling pattern through a 6-game series One-Day Bowling Tournament. Held to give the team members a preview of the team tournament lane condition, the one day event likewise give new members a chance to establish their respective average scores. Banking on his superb closing games, Egay Cabildo booked a come from behind win in clinching the one-day title. Grabbing the first and second runner up positions were Chit Mariano and Romy Fermil.

Signing up for this 6-game series competition were Paul Wilson, Sam Snipes, Jerry Acuna, Bobby Carambas, Karl Alinea, Norman Conde, Arnold Mendoza, Benny Chan, Sonny Mariano, Rudy Zablan, JR Sabado, Romy Fermil, Chit Mariano, Jun Guerra, Rod Llait, Egay Cabildo, Jowie Concepcion, Ronald Ferolino, Liza Catapia, Aga Cuadrazal, Rico Galang, Danny San Juan and Rick Marimla. Setting the pace after rolling an explosive opening game score of 251 was Romy Fermil with Jun Guerra a far second with 185. The other early leaders also include, Chit Mariano-182, Ric Marimla-179, Aga Cuadrazal-177 and Egay Cabildo-173. Through a 215 in the next game, Romy Fermil stretched his lead to a whooping 75 pin falls over Chit Mariano who jumped to second place submitting a 210 score which raised her 2-game tally to 392. Jun Guerra remained well placed in third with 374 followed by Rod Llait-364, Egay Cabildo and Ric Marimla with identical 362.

At the halfway mark of the 6-game series event, Romy Fermil crash landed with a disastrous performance which netted him a meager 149 score. Despite the debacle, Romy Fermil with a 3-game tally 616 managed to hang on to the lead but poised to overtake him at this point was the second running Chit Mariano who after carding a game three score of 213 was now just 11 pins off the lead with 605. Going to the fourth game of the series, the other remaining contenders for the top 3 positions were Egay Cabildo-569, Danny San Juan-539, Ric Marimla-539, Rico Galang-537 and Aga Cuadrazal-535. And as Romy Fermil’s woes continued in the next game, Chit Mariano emerged as the new leader at the end of game four with 775 pin falls to her credit. Romy Fermil meanwhile skidded down to second place with 751 followed by the lurking Egay Cabildo-745, Aga Cuadrazal-719, Jun Guerrra-715 and Danny San Juan-707.

In the pivotal game seven, Egay Cabildo made a bold move as he scorched the lanes in a timely manner and succeeded in taking the pole position through a 220 game score and a 5-game tally of 965 pin falls. Chit Mariano who rolled a 177 dropped back to second with 952 and a close third with only a game left at hand was Romy Fermil with 949. Going to the final game of the competition, the other contenders were Rod Llait-908, JR Sabado-906 and Jun Guerra-900. Showing his tenacity when it counted most, the resilient Egay Cabildo went to clinch the top prize at stake by dishing out a closing game score of 198 and a 6-game tally of 1143 pin falls. In the tight battle for second, Chit Mariano out bowled Romy Fermil in the last game 191-188 to take an 1143-1137 edge after six games.

Meanwhile, the Filipino Tenpin Bowlers-Kuwait (FTBK) will be holding another one-day event this coming Friday April 21 and roll-off is set at 9:00. On the other hand, Season 11 of the FTBK Team Tournament will commence on April 28. For further details interested teams may contact any member of the FTBK Board of Directors.
