KUWAIT CITY, Sept 4: The Misdemeanor Court acquitted an expatriate and an employee of an embassy who were accused of fighting in public at Kuwait University over a financial dispute. According to the case file, the expatriate had called the employee of the embassy to intervene in a financial dispute between him and another person.

The employee refused to do so, as the issue has nothing to do with the embassy’s work. When they met, both men engaged in fierce verbal altercation which developed into a fist fight in public. Later, the embassy employee filed a case against the expatriate.

Both sides presented medical reports. Representing the expatriate was Lawyer Ali Al-Ali who insisted that the allegations leveled against his client fall short of evidences, especially since the case was only based on unsubstantiated testimony of the plaintiff.

‘Register as bedoun’: The Administrative Circuit of the Court of First Instance Court ordered the Chairman of Central System for Remedying Status of Illegal Residents (CSRSIR) to re-register the head of a family as “Bedoun” so that he is able to carry out transactions. Previously, CSRSIR had refused to register the plaintiff after the latter obtained a passport of Dominican Republic in order to travel overseas for treatment. The plaintiff counsel Lawyer Abdulmohsen Al-Qattan provided documents to prove his client was born in 1962 in Kuwait and was registered as Bedoun until he was obligated to obtain a passport of the Dominican Republic for medical reasons. The passport was later taken from him as it was not recognized. He went to CSRSIR and asked for registration as a Bedoun so that he is able to obtain birth certificates for his children; however, his request was refused. The court stated that CSRSIR violated Decree No. 476/2010, ruling in favor of the plaintiff.
