Users suffering from Cancer

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 20: Belviq XR (lorcaserin) – which is used in weight loss medicines and weight management programs – is not registered in Kuwait, which the Food and Drug Authority has requested to withdraw from the market, due to the results of clinical studies, which show that the number of people suffering from cancer has increased following its use, reports Al-Rai daily quoting health sources.

The sources emphasized that the said medical composition is neither registered or used in the country, noting that the Department of Registration and Control of Medicinal and Plant Medicines represented in the Registration Department is taking strict measures towards procedures for registering medicines and preparations to ensure the safety of drug circulation inside the country.

This is in accordance with the ministerial directives to continuously keep abreast with large and continuing developments followed by international regulatory systems to update the mechanism of importing, distributing and registering medicine by the drug and food control sector in the country.
