KUWAIT CITY, July 9: Kuwait Democratic Forum issued a statement Tuesday on the suicide of a young Bedoun, urging the government to quickly naturalize deserving Bedouns and take a humanitarian step to address the issue by granting Bedouns their basic human rights like health and education.

The political group asserted in its statement that this unfortunate incident is not the first and it will not be the last as long as the suffering of Bedouns continues.

They pointed out this incident is alarming, adding that the legislative and executive authorities are not serious in solving the problems of Bedouns.

In spite of what the two authorities have been saying about the issue, the reality is that Bedouns live on the outskirts of society and the country without any regard for their wellbeing.

Majority of them live in squalor, without employment prospects; while those who find jobs receive wages not even enough to cover individual needs, the group stressed. “We highlight the responsibilities of everyone, especially the government and the concerned public authority, as their utter negligence and damaging decisions concerning Bedouns have exacerbated the issue; taking into consideration that the authority was established to solve the problems of Bedouns,” the group added.

Therefore, they demanded for serious legislative steps towards solving this issue. They argued both the government and Parliament must be held accountable as they have been neglecting their responsibilities towards Bedouns for generations. “Serious decisions and measures are vital at this point; such as naturalizing those qualified, implementing relevant regulations and providing them with basic humanitarian rights which should be prioritized,” the group concluded.
