Bank accounts of ‘Lion of Hawalli’, family frozen

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 6: The Central Bank has issued circulars to all local banks to freeze the accounts of Sheikh Ahmed Al-Khalifa, known as Lion of Hawalli and that of the members of his family (wife and children), reports Al-Rai daily.

Without giving details, the daily added, the case is being investigated by the Public Prosecution. Legal sources said the orders to freeze the accounts were given following the arrest of two employees of the Ministry of Interior while they were in the process of completing suspicious transactions due to the nature of the trade.

The sources added, the two individuals are said to have given detailed confessions during interrogation concerning the nature of the trade and how it is being done following which they were referred to the Public Prosecution. It has been reported five other employees of the Ministry of Interior are also being interrogated. Investigations are under way to examine all the circumstances of the case.
