Bangladeshis in Kuwait celebrate Bangla New Year

KUWAIT CITY, May 7: With the collaboration of Bangladesh Community, the Embassy of Bangladesh in Kuwait arranged a day-long program on the occasion of Bangla New Year (Baishaki mela) 1425 & Development Fair 2018 at the Abbasiya Touristic Garden in Kuwait. His Excellency S.M. Abul Kalam, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh in the State of Kuwait and Chief Sponsor of the Baishakhi Mela Mohd Shahid Islam Papul inaugurated the program with the cutting of ribbon at 10:00 am.

His Excellemcy the Ambassador delivered his short speech to the audience at the inauguration moment and he greeted and thanked the Bangladeshi exparitates’ for joining and celebrating the Bangla New Year from all corners of Kuwait. His Excellency the Ambassador along with Madame Syeda Sultana Kalam visited Development Fair 2018 stalls and later on he visited ‘Pita Uthsab’ and Panta Ilish (festival of homemade sweets, cookies and delicacies).

He also visited Bangladesh Military Contingent (BMC) stall along with other stalls set up by Bangladeshi Expatriates. In the evening session the Ambassador took part in a rally known as ‘Mongol Shobhajatra’ which is organized by the Bangladesh expatriates. It is noted that the Mongol Shobhajatra got recognition as the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. The colorful cultural program was started with singing of the national anthem of Bangladesh.

The talented vocal artistes and musicians among the Bangladeshi expatriates in Kuwait took part in the cultural show. The performers rendered folk, modern, chorus, spiritual and patriotic songs, short drama dance etc which enthralled the audience. Apart from the above, some games were also arranged for the children and women at the venue which added colour to the event.

At the end of the cultural program raffl e draw was arranged sponsored by the Embassy H.E. Ambassador distributed the prizes among the raffl e draw winners. His Excellency also thanked the Chief sponsor and all concerned Bangladeshi expatriates who were involved and supported the Embassy to complete the program successfully
