Bangladeshi gang of MEW cable thieves arrested – 4 held in bogus maids office

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 30: Officers from the Residency Affairs Department arrested a gang of Bangladeshi expatriates specialized in stealing power cables belonging to the Ministry of Electricity and Water. General Public Relations and Security Media Department at the Ministry of Interior stated the sector received information from secret sources saying a gang of Bangladeshi nationals were involved in power cable theft.

A team was formed to bring the suspects to book, and upon verification of the report, they managed to arrest them. The suspects were in possession of 100kg of copper alongside sophisticated tools for cutting the power cables. They admitted the crime. Initial investigation revealed that the suspects are not working for their sponsors.

They explained paying money to their respective sponsors to obtain visa, although the sponsors do not provide them jobs. All suspects have since been referred to relevant authorities and steps have been taken to invite their sponsors for questioning.

Meanwhile, officers from the Residency Affairs Department raided a bogus domestic recruitment agency and arrested four individuals of different nationalities for cheating Kuwaiti citizens and expatriates. Initial investigation revealed that the office run by an Ethiopian expatriate usually lobbied with Kuwaitis to provide them the services of domestic workers on hourly basis. All four people arrested during the raid are said to have violated residency law and they confessed working on hourly basis in various homes. No absconding-related cases had been registered against them, although they were wanted for other offenses. Citizens and expatriate are warned on dealing with bogus domestic agencies and dubious people for their own safety.

Child falls in manhole: A 10-yearold child suffered injury after falling into a manhole close to a restaurant in Qasser area, says Al-Seyassah. A rescue team was dispatched to the scene when the Operations Room of the Interior Ministry received information about the incident and they managed to remove the child. He was referred to Jahra Hospital for treatment.
