KUWAIT CITY, March 3: Assistant Undersecretary for Correctional Facilities at Ministry of Interior Major General Faraj Al-Zoubi announced the suspension of visitations for inmates at the Central Prison for a period of two weeks, affirming that the inmates will be allowed to use the landline to communicate with their relatives.

He clarified that this suspension is one of the precautionary measures being taken in consideration of the fact that the Central Prison is the largest gathering of inmates in Kuwait and it is imperative to prevent the spread of any epidemic.

Al-Zoubi indicated that the correctional facilities have adopted full preventive measures to protect inmates from the spread of coronavirus and ensure the virus is not transmitted from outside the prison complex through any visitors or any employees who enter the Central Prison.

He explained that these exceptional measures were taken by examining all employees working in the Central Prison. These measures are based on instructions issued by Undersecretary of Ministry of Interior Lieutenant General Essam Al-Naham regarding the need to take all necessary precautionary measures to protect and prevent the outbreak of coronavirus in the prison.

Ministry of Health has been coordinating with the correctional facilities’ officials and employees on the ground to ensure all measures are being executed. Al-Zoubi reaffirmed the importance of protecting all inmates and those working in the correctional facilities from this virus through such precautionary measures
