‘Doors of govt agencies open for inquiry’

KUWAIT CITY, May 21: The study conducted by the State Audit Bureau (SAB) on the expenses and direct contracts for addressing the corona crisis is worthy of commendation and it is a testimony of truth in front of the skeptics, reports Al-Rai daily quoting a source from the government.

The source indicated that the presentation of the bureau in the recently concluded meeting with the speaker and members of the National Assembly, as well as the recent Cabinet meeting, confirmed the validity of procedures followed in signing the contracts of government agencies with the aim of fulfilling the requirements for combating the coronavirus pandemic (Covid-19).

The source confirmed the procedures followed in these contracts and their justifications were made after the presentation to the competent supervisory authorities in the bureau, Central Agency for Public Tenders, Fatwa and Legislation Department, and Financial Supervisory Authority; and upon approval of the regulatory authorities. While expressing appreciation for various supervisory authorities and their role in preserving public money, the source rejected all manifestations of prejudice to the reputation of the workers without evidence. He asserted the skeptics are free to investigate the accuracy of information before spreading it or they have the option to present evidence to the competent authorities.

The source added that SAB affirmed the deep commitment of concerned agencies in the ministries of Health, Defense and Interior to comply with contracting procedures, so the evidence is for whoever claimed otherwise. He said the doors of government agencies are open to any inquiry within the framework of correct legal procedures.

The source reaffirmed the importance of constructive oversight and positive cooperation roles that SAB plays in dealing with different government agencies. He asserted the bureau provides assistance to ensure smooth fl ow of funding and financing operations to cover various needs, implement projects and respond to requests. He said everything is done within the framework of commitment to protect public money, ensure the integrity of procedures and intensify efforts exerted in facing a serious epidemic
