ASSE Kuwait honors ASSE GCC HSE Excellence Award winners – Award program 2016 was launched on Jan 25, 2016

KUWAIT CITY, May 11: American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE), Kuwait Chapter is a premier voluntary, non-profit, Health, Safety and Environmental professional organization, which strives to provide professional guidance, training, consultancy and resources to the HSE Professionals, industrial and social sectors in the region.

To recognize and honour the private sector companies for their leadership, excellence and exceptional performance in the field of Health, Safety and Environment in the Gulf Region, American Society Of Safety Engineers — Kuwait Chapter organises ASSE-GCC HSE Excellence Award annually. The award program 2016 was launched on Jan 25, 2016 inviting applications from the Private sector organizations in GCC countries and was concluded with a grand award presentation ceremony on May 2, 2016 at Hilton Resorts Kuwait. The ASSE GCC HSE Excellence award Program was patronized by Kuwait Petroleum Corporation, supported by IOSH, endorsed by IADC and sponsored by KNPC.

The award ceremony started with welcome address by Sampath Reddy, President, ASSE-Kuwait Chapter. He briefed about the Chapter activities, its objectives and achievements along with the background of the ASSE GCC Award program. He mentioned that the Kuwait chapter has pioneered the annual award program for 8th time successfully. Santhosh Kumar Shenoy Deputy Director for the ASSE GCC HSE Excellence Award 2016 facilitated the event.

Fadhel Al-Ali, Chairman of ASSE-Kuwait Chapter in his address highlighted the importance of this award program and the value each company is giving to this evidence based award, which showcases successful business models from each organizations that uphold HSE as a business value. He explained about the Main theme of the competition “You Perform We recognize” and congratulated the winning companies. He appreciated all the Award program organizing committee members for putting their best efforts to make this program a grand success.

Ali Al Kshawe, Manager HSE, Kuwait National Petroleum Company delivered the keynote speech on behalf of the Chief Guest Mohammed Ghazi Al Mutairi CEO, Kuwait National Petroleum Company. He congratulated all the award-winning companies and appreciated the initiatives of ASSE Kuwait Chapter for promoting the HSE performance in private sector companies in the GCC region through this award program. He highlighted the importance of HSE and the present day HSE challenges faced by the contractors within the Oil Sector & Other Industries in this region.

On this occasion, the message from Mike Belcher, President ASSE, USA who is also one of the adjudication panel member, was broadcasted through the video. Ashok Garlapati, ASSE Global Region Vice-President in his speech informed that ASSE chapters has been started in India ,Qatar UAE, Pakistan, Egypt, Nigeria Etc. He congratulated all the award winning companies and wished them to continue to keep their good work.

Dave Geer, the IADC Regional Director in the Middle East addressed the gathering and acclaimed ASSE initiatives and shared the pleasure getting associated with the ASSE.

There after Sunil Sadanandan, Director ASSE-GCC HSE Excellence Award 2016 Organizing Committee, briefed about the award categories and criteria used to evaluate the HSE management system and their HSE performance of the participating companies. He thanked and congratulated all the companies who participated in the award program.

He briefed about the benefits of the award program, which includes motivating companies to excel their HSE performance year by year, setting new benchmarks each year to improve the company image. He also informed that unlike earlier, this year all the awards were open for all companies and any companies can submit of any award like HSE Performance, Environmental Excellence Award, Corporate Social responsibility award, Management of Driving safety award, Best HSE Initiative award. This year new award Best Risk Management award was introduced for companies to focus more on the risk based approaches for their activities. He also informed that GCC HSE award program was much appreciated by the adjudication panel judges from the ASSE, US.

A total of 41 private sector companies from GCC Countries including Kuwait, Oman, UAE participated by submitting award applications and 64 awards were presented during the ceremony for the winners.

During the recognition ceremony, “NEWS FLASH” of the award program was released by the chief guest.

The awards were presented to the winning companies by the Chief Guest of the evening Ali Al Kshawe, Manager HSE, KNPC, Naif Al-Anzi, Manager Technical Support, KOC, Fahad Al-Dhamen, Team Leader HSE D&T, KOC, Faris Al-Mansouri, Team leader QHSE MPTS Directorate, KOC and Dave Geer, Regional Director of IADC.
