Amir calls to start national dialogue

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 29: His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al- Jaber Al-Sabah has instructed the executive and legislative authorities to open a national dialogue aiming to prepare the ground for effective cooperation, Minister of Diwan Affairs Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah said on Wednesday. His Highness the Amir urged both sides to pool their efforts and resources towards putting aside their differences, and resolving all problems in serving the interests of the citizens and the dear homeland. He looks forward to the dialogue realizing its aspired objectives in pushing forward the march of democratic action, which is a source of pride for everybody, in the framework of the Constitution and the national principles, the minister noted. Sheikh Mohammad prayed to Almighty Allah to protect the generous people of Kuwait and maintain the security, prosperity and welfare of the country under the wise leadership of His Highness the Amir and His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Mishaal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

Kuwait’s Cabinet said on Wednesday it firmly supported a request by His Highness the Amir for the country’s executive and legislative powers to participate in a national dialogue, saying such an event would serve the best interests of citizens. The talks is a major step towards ironing out contentious matters, helping get state officials and lawmakers on the same page, Kuwait’s Defense Minister and Acting State Minister for Cabinet Affairs Sheikh Hamad Al-Sabah told reporters after a cabinet meeting. The cabinet expressed its “optimism” that the talks, requested by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al- Sabah, would “turn a new page” in ties between Kuwait’s executive and legislative authorities, leading to a brighter future ahead for the country.

On these ties, the Cabinet said it was imperative that legislative and executive powers work as a cohesive unit to deal with the challenges facing the country, which in turn, ushers in progress over stalled reforms and keeps national development on an upward trajectory. Ahead of the start of the new school year on Sunday, which will see students return to the classroom after a sabbatical that lasted more than a year because of COVID restrictions, Education Minister Ali Al-Mudhaf said all preparations are in place to ensure a “safe return” to in-person learning.

The Cabinet praised the diligence and dedication of the education ministry’s efforts to allow students to return to class without comprising their safety, wishing them a successful and productive school year. Separately, during their visit to Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port building site, north of the country, His Highness the Prime Minister was briefed by Minister of Public Works and State Minister for Telecommunications and IT Dr Rana Al-Faris on the recent developments related to the project. Upon completion, the key port will do much to invigorate Boubyan Island and reposition the country as a major hub on the regional and international spectrums due to its strategic location and its huge benefit to the economy, ministers said, expressing their appreciation for the steps being made towards this goal.

The ongoing construction of a number of other infrastructure projects were also discussed in depth, namely two artificial islands (Bay Island North and Bay Island South) close to Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al- Sabah Causeway, which will aim to offer entertainment and tourism facilities. The development of Failaka and Boubyan islands and Madinat Al-Hareer (Silk City) in northern Kuwait’s Subiya were also reviewed. The Cabinet also studied the committee’s recommendation regarding the road map prepared by the Public Authority for Youth to activate the role of youth centers in all governorates of the State of Kuwait. Kuwait for projects (Youth Creativity League Project – (Our Playgrounds) Project, Rulers Academy and Regions League – Al-Jawalah Center in Sulaibiya for People with Special Needs – Academic Guidance Project – Work Makers Project – Professional Entrepreneur Project – Technology Business City Project).

The Council of Ministers commended the Authority’s efforts to create a cultural and recreational environment for the youth, which aspires to develop capabilities, hone talents and benefit from them, as well as care for people with disabilities. The Council of Ministers decided to entrust the Public Authority for Youth in coordination with all relevant authorities to take everything that would develop, rehabilitate and refine youth talents and skills and persons with disabilities, and in coordination with the Kuwait Municipality, the Direct Investment Promotion Authority, and the authorities that it deems appropriate to start implementing the project to establish a project for the technology business city. The Cabinet also decided to entrust the Public Authority for Sports, in coordination with the Ministry of Finance and the Kuwait Municipality, to set the necessary requirements for the operation and development of sports facilities and facilities in all governorates of the State of Kuwait and to take everything that would develop its resources and revenues in order to create sources of self-financing for the authority and its activities in accordance with the rules and regulations in force in this regard , (KUNA)
