KUWAIT CITY, April 30: The head of the National Union of Kuwaiti Employees and the Head of the Syndicate of the Employees at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry Ajmi Al-Mutlaq has called on the authorities to make the International Labor Day a public holiday saying it is an event of humanitarian values, reports Al-Qabas daily.

Al-Mutlaq said the workers form the base of Kuwait’s progress and Kuwait should celebrate this international event. He added, the State should protect the rights of the laborers and remove any obstacles from their path and not confront the unions who call for the rights of the laborers which are guaranteed by the Constitution.

He added the delay in declaring the International Workers Day or the Labor Day as a public holiday is not astonishing particularly in the ongoing situation which confronts the rights of the laborers. He pointed out the actions of some government offi cials have resulted in promoting negative feelings among the younger employees.
