Al-Fares intends to ‘cancel’ decision to reduce expat teachers house grant

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 16: Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr Muhammad Al-Fares disclosed his intention to cancel the decision to reduce the housing allowance of expatriate teachers after coordinating with the Civil Service Commission (CSC).

Al-Fares made the statement when he visited Ibn Tufail Preparatory School recently, during which he clarified that he would have cancelled the decision immediately if it is ministerial but he cannot do so as it is a State decision.

He affirmed support for anything in favor of the teachers, while praising the high standard of the school which consists of a theater hall, training center and six other halls. He visited most of the classes and lauded the positive interaction between teachers and students.

On the other hand, Director of the school Bader Al-Hajeri said this is a model school and a pioneer in using electronic educational methods. He also expressed his happiness over the minister’s appreciation of the school and its teaching staff.

Meanwhile, Minister of Public Works Dr Abdulrahman Al-Mutawa revealed that field tours are more effective than communication via letters which is often just a waste of time, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

While receiving well-wishers at the premises of Ministry of Public Works, he indicated that some projects were suspended due to insufficient budget, affirming that he will visit Ministry of Finance to figure out the reasons behind the lack of budget.

The minister said the ministry will coordinate with Ministry of Interior to close down the roads that are in need of maintenance, indicating that the problem of fl ying gravel requires at least three years to be solved. He stressed that those responsible for the problems on the roads will be dealt with strictly.

Concerning the new airport, Dr Al-Mutawa indicated that the project will be completed within the deadline. Dr Al-Mutawa revealed that discussions will be held with the relevant authorities concerning the suspended projects in order to work on resuming them particularly the project for the construction of the fl yover connecting Sixth Ring Road and Sabah Al- Nasser towards Al-Shaddadiya.

Meanwhile, Undersecretary of Ministry of Public Works Eng. Awatif Al-Ghunaim said the building of Ministry of Education will be delivered in March 2017. She revealed that the ministry has completed the final touches to the project of the Children Hospital which includes 27 specializations.

Eng.p Al-Ghunaim also revealed that the ministry has signed a contract for establishing an obstetrics hospital with capacity of 6,000 beds, adding that the last day for submitting the bids for the tender of Jahra Ministry Complex is December 27.
