Absconding maids caught working privately; Two held as citizens, expats cheated

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 16: Security operatives apprehended two individuals for cheating several citizens and expatriates after signing contracts to provide them domestic workers, reports Al-Seyassah daily. A security source said the bogus domestic recruitment agency issued receipts to customers indicating the office is licensed but deceived them after collecting payment for their service. Apparently, the two suspects lured housemaids to leave their sponsors and later sent them to houses to work on daily wages, and security operatives in a raid took 7 African girls into custody for violating residency law. Investigation revealed that sponsors of the 7 girls had registered various cases against them.

Woman swindled: Detectives from Criminal Investigations Department arrested a con man who swindled KD 10,000 from a Kuwaiti woman in her 30s, reports Al Shahed daily. The victim, who works at Ministry of Health, had lodged a complaint at the Criminal Investigations Department, explaining that the suspect had proposed to marry her and held long discussions with her about the marriage. After several months, he told her that he didn’t want to wait any longer for the marriage, and asked her KD 10,000 as loan to prepare for the wedding ceremony and the related arrangements. Trusting his word, she took a consumer loan from a bank and gave him. However, after receiving the money, he started avoiding her. After several weeks, he sent her a text message from Cairo, informing her that he was no longer interested in marrying her. He then kept his mobile phone switched off. Securitymen conducted investigations and managed to find and arrest him. He was referred to the concerned authorities for necessary legal action.
