Owners of the winning camel celebrate with their trophy.
The 17th Kuwait Camel Championship attracted a large number of participants from Gulf, Arab and foreign countries — a total of 3,000 of the best camels in the world.The competition was held under the patronage of HH the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.Chairman of the organizing committee and Deputy Director of the Public Authority for Sport (PAS) Dr Homoud Flaitah and heads of the delegations attended the event.The competition slated for the morning witnessed excellent performance of camels owned by Kuwaitis, winning nine out of 21 rounds in the young camels category. The Emirati and Qatari owners won five rounds each whereas the Saudis and Omanis won one round each.Kuwait’s achievement came through the victory of camels Al-Dawla owned by Faraj Al-Ajmi, Maskhour owned by Abdullah Al-Ajmi, Jamra owned by Juwaied Al-Ajmi, Lazam owned by Hadi Al-Hajeri, Heshma owned by Sahel Al-Ajmi, Ghuzailan owned by Muhammad Al-Merri, Qaza owned by Zafar Al-Hajri, Shelhen owned by Muhammad Al-Merri and Kanq owned by Abdulaziz Al-Ajmi.The Emirati winners included camels Mezna owned by Hamdan Al-Mansouri, Meghtha owned by Hamdan Al-Kutbi, Salam owned by Muhammad Al-Khaili, Sawab owned by Muhammad Al-Ghafli and Ashqar owned by Hameed Al-Sharefi.The Qatari winners were camels Shahena owned by Khalifa Al-Atiya, Al-Ghaz owned by Ali Al-Merri, Ghaba owned by Saad Al-Merri, Anhowa owned by Rashed Al-Merri and Daloub owned by Badr Al-Baheh.The Saudi winner was camel Expo owned by Salem Al-Enaba and the Omani winner was Salhoud owned by Hameed ben Sagheer.The second day of the competition witnessed the participation of more than 500 camels competing in different categories for individuals and Sheikhs.Flaitah expressed his happiness over the gathering of brothers and friends in Kuwait as it reflects strong ties between Gulf and Arab countries. He praised as well the unwavering support of HH the Amir for the sport of ancestors.Also, the guests extended their appreciation to the organizers for the warm reception, affirming they immensely enjoyed their tour of the Heritage Village.
