KUWAIT CITY, March 15: The Misdemeanor Court has sentenced a Kuwaiti citizen to seven-year imprisonment and four of his male and female friends to fouryear imprisonment in a lawsuit filed against them for alleged incarceration, battering and torturing of the first defendant’s wife. The case was filed by the plaintiff counsel Lawyer Maryam Al-Basharah.

According to the case file, the estranged husband betrayed human nature when he tricked his wife into an apartment in Salwa where she was tortured. He called the woman to join him inside the apartment from where he would take her to hospital for a medical test. Even before the woman entered the apartment, she met one of her husband’s friends with two women. They shut the door and the husband then set up a camera to record her confession of betrayal against him. The suspects were allegedly under influence of hashish and methamphetamine. Her refusal to comply prompted them to incarcerate and torture her. They rubbed burning cigarettes on her, insulted her and threatened to strip her naked. She remained in their captivity for almost one and a half hours. After she managed to escape from her captors, she rushed to Lawyer Al-Basharah and explained the incident to her.

The lawyer then reported the case to the Prosecutor General, and urged the detectives’ chief to act fast on the case and seize the video camera and mobile phones that the suspects had used, to serve as proof. The security guard of the building, who had facilitated the woman’s escape, was also invited as a witness.
