Firemen race to put out a fire that broke out in an under-construction expansion unit of the Avenues
KUWAIT CITY, July 6: Just a few days after the huge fire that engulfed a building in Sharq area, a similar fire broke out in a building under construction in the Avenues Mall in Al- Rai area. The fire was extinguished in record time by 70 firefighters from four fire stations before the fire spread to nearby structures. In the process, seven firefighters were injured and received treatment at the site by paramedics. The materials inside the basement of 40,000 square meters went up in flames. Investigations have been launched to determine the cause of the fire. The Avenues Mall is owned by Kuwait-listed Mabanee, which has interests in real estate, construction and investment. Mabanee said in a statement that the fire affected only the storage room where it broke out and would not slow the mall expansion project, which is in its fourth phase. Opened in 2007, The Avenues is the largest shopping mall in Kuwait with over 800 stores, according to its website.By Munaif Nayef Al-Seyassah Staff and Agencies
