Indians top domestic workers list

KUWAIT CITY, May 16: A total of 447,000 residency permits were canceled in 2020 – 276,000 in the private sector; 14,000 in the government sector; 94,000 in the domestic labor sector and 63,000 family or dependent visas, reports Al-Qabas daily quoting the migration report of the Central Statistics Bureau for the year 2020.
According to the report, the domestic workers constitute more than 26 percent of the total workforce – 732,000 out of 2.8 million foreign workers.
Indians top the list of domestic workers with 343,335 or 47 percent of the total; followed by Filipinos with 157,602 or 21.5 percent; Bangladeshis with 86,830 or 11.9 percent; Sri Lankans with 84,642, or 11.6 percent; Ethiopians with 18,306 or 2.5 percent; Nepalese with 16,378 or 2.2 percent; Ivory Coast with 3,244 or 0.4 percent; Indonesians with 2,794 or 0.4 percent; Madagascar with 2,604 or 0.4 percent; and Benin with 2,324 or 0.3 percent. Other nationalities totaled 14,145 or 1.9 percent of the entire domestic workforce.
With more than 500,000 workers; the Indian and Filipino communities account for 68.5 percent of the domestic labor market in Kuwait.
