35 Jleeb make-shift shops shut – 7-hour campaign targets violations

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 11: Central Emergency Team at the office of the Director General of Kuwait Municipality, in cooperation with the Department of Public Hygiene and Road Occupancy at Farwaniya Municipality, conducted a field tour of random make-shift markets at Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh, reports Al-Seyassah daily. The campaign resulted in the removal of 35 make-shift markets for selling sheep and confiscation of 4 loads of expired foodstuffs and second- hand clothing.

Meshal al-Malek, deputy head of the team said the tour aimed at eradicating the negative phenomenon of random markets in Jleeb Shuyoukh area had lasted 7 hours. In a related development, Directorate of Public Relations at Kuwait Municipality announced the achievements of the Department of Audit and Follow-up of Municipal Services at Jahra Municipality for August 2017.

The achievements include visits to 707 shops, issuance of 128 violations related to spoilt foodstuffs and unlicensed advertisements, destruction of 14,777kg of food deemed unfit for human consumption, removal of 181 advertisements, and referral of 170 samples to the laboratories of the Ministry of Health for testing. The sector urges citizens and expatriates to contact hotline 139 or social media site kuwmun@ for complaints, noting all complaints filed will be taken seriously.

Meanwhile, Director General of Kuwait Municipality Ahmad Al- Manfouhi responded to the request of the Ministry of Public Works to remove 80,000 cubic meters of dry mud from Reqa Sewage Water Purification Plant. This is aimed at preventing fire incidents due to rising temperatures and protecting the environment. The Municipality, in cooperation with the Projects and Environment Department, will implement the project according to conditions concerning dry mud stipulated in decision number 6/2017 with approval of the Environment Public Authority (EPA). Al-Manfouhi affirmed the Municipality is keen on coordinating with different institutions to serve the interests of the public.
