229 deaths and 6,825 infected in India from coronavirus

NEW DELHI, April 10: In India COVID-19 has claimed 229 lives so far while the people infected by the deadly virus in the country rose to 6825.

The ministry stated in its morning update today that the death toll rose to 229 people with 46 fresh deaths reported from different Indian states while there are a total of 6825 infections as 678 fresh cases were reported in the last 24 hours.


Out of the 6825 confirmed cases, 641 people recovered and were discharged from hospitals while the pandemic spread to 31 Indian states.
Maharashtra is considered the worst affected state as the death toll rose to 98 while total infected people are standing at 1,364, followed by south Indian state of Tamil Nadu with 8t deaths and 834 positive cases.

The capital New Delhi reported 720 positive cases and registered 12 deaths.
The Indian authorities had imposed a nation-wide lock down for 21 days in wake of the spread of coronavirus and deaths to more states.


The central and state governments had slapped curfew-like restrictions, closing down schools, educational institutions and universities imposing ban on religious and other festivals, huge gatherings.
All transport services including train, bus, metro and flight also came to a halt in wake of the spread of the deadly virus
