180 citations issued for forcing laborers to work under direct sunlight – KD 100 per laborers fined

PAM officials inspecting construction sites to check if laborers are forced to work outside in the direct sunlight.

KUWAIT CITY, June 20: Public Authority for Manpower (PAM) launched a sudden campaign targeting construction sites in the new residential areas with the aim of ensuring companies are committed to the authority’s decision to ban work in open areas under direct sunlight from 11 am to 4 pm during the period from June 1 to August 30.

Director of the National Council for Vocational Health and Safety at PAM Nayef Al-Mutairi said 180 citations in this regard have been issued since the start of enforcement of the decision.

He revealed that the violating companies have been fined KD 100 per laborers, adding that six teams of inspectors have been distributed to the six governorates of Kuwait.

Al-Mutairi affirmed that the campaigns will continue without any prior warning. Concerning the laborers who were found to be in violation of the residency law, he said PAM has no authority to punish them but they will be referred to the concerned authorities for necessary legal action if they are discovered.
