As Yves Saint Laurent once said, “Over the years, I have learned that what is important in the dress is the woman who is wearing it.” And this is never truer than on Oscar night, when movie stars — male and female — are held under the tightest scrutiny not only for what they’re wearing, but for what everything else looks like as well, from hair to skin to posture and personality. An actress can be cloaked in the most beautiful gown in the world, but if she appears wary and tired and there’s an untimely red blemish on her nose, all best-dressed bets are off. Same goes for men. What’s Michael Fassbender’s hottest feature? Not the sleek Tom Ford tux sewn of eco-friendly fabric he sported at the Golden Globes (although that was pretty dapper) — it’s his face.

Not to mention that famous shark-like grin. But whether you’re a celebrity or just want to look like one, giving great awards season face requires ample preparation in the way of cleanses, mud masks and facials. “Most celebrities will maintain a beauty and fi tness regimen yearround, so they are ready to walk the red carpet when needed,” says Ritz-Carlton Spa Los Angeles’ spa director, Kory Keith. “(But) that doesn’t mean you can’t work a little magic with less time.” Three to four days before walking the red carpet, Keith recommends booking a soothing and hydrating facial like the Ritz- Carlton Spa’s Red Carpet Radiance facial, which includes a deep brush cleanse, skin radiance mask, age-defying crystal massage, professional lifting mask, and nonsurgical sculpt and contour.

“Avoid any procedure that includes extractions or chemical peels,” she says. And make sure to drink plenty of water: “Hydrated, glowing skin is the best accessory for the red carpet.” Clear To keep their complexions clear and skin dewy-soft, stars like Cristina Aguilera and “Scream Queens” thesp Lea Michele favor Dr Ronald Moy’s DNA Facial offered exclusively at the Four Seasons Beverly Hills. The facial, which, per Moy, delivers “the ultimate red carpet glow,” is as sophisticated as they come, implementing Moy’s patented DNA EGF Renewal products to reduce plump skin and boost collagen production. Jennifer Aniston and Sandra Bullock head to skin care guru Mila Moursi for the 90-minute long Global Anti-Age Rejuvenation Treatment, a non-invasive procedure that naturally contours and tightens the skin while stimulating new cell production. Angelina Jolie is a noted fan of the rejuvenating Triad Facial invented by New York-based dermatologist Dr David Colbert.

In L.A., Naomi Watts and “Mad Max: Fury Road” star Charlize Theron are clients of facialist Joanna Vargas, founder of Joanna Vargas Salon and Skincare Collection (Vargas’ Triple Crown Facial and Forever Facial are her “most in demand” treatments) and Anna Kendrick is partial to the EndyMed treatment — which combines Microneedling and Radio Frequency to tighten skin and reduce fine lines and wrinkles — offered at Kate Somerville’s skin-care clinic. Like anything else in life, the more time you focus on your skin, the healthier and younger it’s going to look, says veteran skin care expert Sonya Dakar, who’s been treating the likes of Gwyneth Paltrow and Drew Barrymore for the past 45 years at her Beverly Hills clinic. For added privacy, she maintains a “paparazzi-free” entrance for her famous clientele. “I have a no-nonsense approach to skin care,” Dakar says. “I put my clients through a six-week program where we transform their skin into perfection with in-clinic treatment, lifestyle changes, diet and products. All my treatments serve the purpose of getting my clients the results they are looking for. But I do so with the most natural and skin-friendly treatments and products. I am the trainer for your skin, and it can be tough love at times.” (RTRS)
