NEW YORK, Aug 14: Tech mogul Mark Zuckerberg has made a grand gesture to honor his wife, Priscilla Chan, by gifting her an impressive sculpture of her likeness. The sculpture, inspired by Roman traditions, features Chan in a striking turquoise statue.
In an Instagram post on Tuesday, Zuckerberg, 40, shared a photo of Chan, 39, standing beside the massive sculpture in their garden. The artwork, created by renowned sculptor Daniel Arsham, depicts Chan in a pink robe next to the turquoise statue, which includes a wind-blown silver garment resembling angel wings. Chan is seen sipping from a mug that matches the statue’s vibrant blue-green color.
Zuckerberg revealed that he had long joked about commissioning a sculpture of Chan and finally seized the opportunity when Arsham became available. Arsham, known for his collaborations with brands like Tiffany & Co. and Pokémon, created the piece using materials similar to those in his Venice exhibition at Chiesa di Santa Caterina.
The post quickly garnered attention, receiving over 170,000 likes and numerous comments praising Zuckerberg's thoughtful gift. One Instagram user remarked, “Husbands everywhere are shaking,” while another said, “Setting the bar high for all the husbands out there markiepoo.” A third user humorously noted, “Was literally about to get the same thing for my wife. Now I have to pivot.”
The tradition of sculpting wives, rooted in Roman ideals of "pietas" which emphasized duty, loyalty, and devotion, reflects the historical practice of honoring one's family and loved ones.
Zuckerberg and Chan first met at a Harvard party in 2003. They married in May 2012 in a private outdoor ceremony at their home in Palo Alto, California. The couple has three children: Maxima, August, and Aurelia.
Last month, Zuckerberg and Chan attended an opulent pre-wedding event in Jamnagar, where they admired Indian billionaire Anant Ambani’s $1 million Richard Mille watch. The lavish party was attended by over 1,000 global billionaires, heads of state, and celebrities.
