YouTube tests ‘Custom Feed’ to let users control homepage content
YouTube is testing a new feature, “Your Custom Feed,” to let users control the content on their homepage.

SAN FRANCISCO, Nov 26: YouTube is experimenting with a new feature called “Your Custom Feed” designed to give users more control over the content they see on their homepage, the video-sharing platform said.

The feature aims to address user frustration with algorithm-driven recommendations, which sometimes fail to match individual interests. Traditionally, YouTube’s algorithm has been criticized for misjudging user preferences, such as showing repetitive content after watching a few related videos.

With the new experimental feature, users will see a “Your Custom Feed” option next to the standard “Home” button. Clicking on it allows users to input prompts tailored to their interests. For example, entering “cooking” will encourage the platform to prioritize related videos in the feed.

“You can actively shape your feed instead of passively scrolling through videos that may not align with your interests,” YouTube said, highlighting the potential for a more personalized experience compared with the current “Not interested” or “Don’t recommend channel” options.

The platform is testing the feature with a limited group of users, and its broader rollout will depend on feedback and popularity. YouTube joins other social media platforms exploring feed customization, including Threads and X, which are testing tools to let users adjust algorithmic recommendations.
