KUWAIT CITY, Feb 1: The Court of Cassation has overturned a Court of Appeal ruling that sentenced a Kuwaiti citizen to five years in prison on theft charges, instead deciding to withhold sentencing and release the defendant on bail.
The case involves a 21-year-old man who was referred to trial after the Public Prosecution charged him with burglary. According to case files, the defendant was accused of scaling the walls of five schools during nighttime hours and stealing personal belongings and electronic devices belonging to female teachers, including laptops and iPads.
During the proceedings, defense lawyer Nawaf Al-Wahib urged the court to exercise leniency, citing the defendant’s young age and social circumstances. The court considered the appeal without upholding the prison sentence previously imposed, despite the defendant’s confessions and evidence presented in the case, including footage captured by school security cameras.
