Yemeni forces shoot down Houthi drone over Marib

SANA, Aug 6: Yemen’s internationally recognized government forces shot down a Houthi drone over the city of Marib on Thursday morning, according to the state-run SABA news agency.

A military source said the drone was intercepted by air defenses shortly after entering the city’s airspace. The source described the incident as part of the Houthis’ "escalatory approach" and accused the group of continuing what it called "terrorist acts." The Houthis had not commented on the report at the time of publication.

Separately, government-aligned forces said the Houthis launched attacks on several military camps and units on Thursday, causing casualties and material damage. The First Division of Yemen's Emergency Forces said its camps were among those targeted but did not specify the locations or provide casualty figures.

The division said the attacks came after government forces carried out operations against smuggling networks, armed groups and wanted suspects, while also working to secure roads and areas under their control. It added that the operations involved the First Emergency Division, the First Military Region, the Nation's Shield Forces and other military and security units.

The latest incidents come amid intermittent clashes on several front lines across Yemen since early July, resulting in dozens of casualties on both sides. Although the conflict has largely subsided since a UN-brokered truce in April 2022, Yemen remains divided after more than 11 years of war between the Saudi-backed government and the Iran-backed Houthi movement, which has controlled the capital, Sanaa, and other areas since 2014.
