Yemeni Air Force strikes Houthi targets in Mocha, Dhubab area

SANAA, Sep 12: The Yemeni Air Force carried out a series of airstrikes targeting Houthi militia positions in the Mocha and Dhubab areas, the Yemeni Armed Forces said Friday.

Brig. Gen. Majid Abdullah al-Nuzaili, spokesman for the Yemeni Armed Forces, said on X that the strikes destroyed vehicles and weapons and killed Houthi militia members in several locations near the port city of Mocha.

According to al-Nuzaili, Houthi members and military equipment were targeted near the port of Mocha and in the vicinity of the Zaid al-Kharj mall in the city.

Other strikes hit militia members near the water project administration in Mocha, while gatherings of vehicles and fighters were targeted at an animal quarantine site along the Mocha-Dhubab road, about 11 kilometers (7 miles) from Mocha.

Al-Nuzaili also said Houthi gatherings were eliminated at a former military leader's headquarters on Mocha's northern ring road.

No further details on casualties or the extent of the damage were immediately available.

Yemen has experienced a relative lull in fighting since 2022, following years of war between government forces, backed by a Saudi-led coalition, and the Iranian-backed Houthis, who seized control of Sanaa and large parts of the country in 2014.

The conflict has remained volatile, however. Since late 2023, the Houthis have launched attacks on Israel and commercial shipping in the Red Sea amid the war in the Gaza Strip, drawing Yemen deeper into wider regional tensions and raising fears of a renewed escalation in the country's long-running conflict.
