DUBROVNIK, Croatia, May 26: World Aquatics has officially signed the agreement to host the inaugural 4×4 Water Polo World Championship, scheduled to be held from August 31 to September 6 in the Croatian city of Dubrovnik.
World Aquatics President Husain Al-Musallam thanked the Croatian government and Dubrovnik Mayor Mato Franković for their major support in organizing the first edition of the tournament.
Al-Musallam stressed that the new format would contribute to the growth of water polo worldwide and create broader opportunities for teams from Africa, Asia, and the Americas to compete internationally.
The updated version of the sport features several modifications, including a smaller playing area measuring 15 meters by 10 meters. Each side will field four players along with substitutes, while matches will consist of four periods, with the team winning three periods declared victorious.
The competition is also designed to be played in a variety of venues, including beaches, rivers, lakes, and swimming pools, adding a more dynamic and globally accessible dimension to the sport.
